Condominiums are everywhere these days, the Greater Toronto Area being a hotspot for them. It is important to maintain your condo and keep it looking bright and modern. A lot of newer units are built relatively quickly, and the commercial interior painting seems to lack any personal flare. Condo units vary in sizes, from 500 square feet to 5000. It may seem like a real challenge to transport multiple gallons of paint up flights of stairs or elevators in order to properly repaint your condo; and it is. This is why it is a good idea to hire professionals. If you are hiring a paint company to repaint your condo, it is a good idea to have a list of requirements to show the potential contractors. Many (but not all) condo units have boards and committees, which adhere to strict guidelines regarding repairs, construction and maintenance on the building. A few important requirements for any contractor working in a condominium (or any residential structure) are as follows:
If you live in an older condo building that hasn’t been painted in a decade or more, it’s a good idea to re-paint your space. The colour schemes from the 90s are very outdated and can make a condo feel drab and dull. Many seniors own condos that haven’t been repainted in many years and it is a challenge for some to undertake a project such as painting. Hiring professionals to repaint your condo is a decision you won’t regret. It’s amazing what a repainted condo can do to transform your living spaces.
Many people in Ontario downsize from large homes to condos. If you have recently purchased a condo are moving into it in the near future, it is a good idea to have professionals hired ahead of time. Most professional paint companies will be booked 4-6 weeks in advance. It is highly recommended to hire a company to paint the space before the move-in date. This allows the company to paint the unit without any obstacles such as boxes, furniture or household items, making the process a little easier. If you are currently living in your space while the condo is being painted, the furniture and items need to be moved either by homeowner, or upon agreement with the painting company.
To paint, or not to paint? How many rooms in my condo should I paint? Should I paint it all? How much is it going to cost? These are typical questions most condo owners ask themselves when deciding to paint. If you live in a smaller unit, it is recommended to paint the entire unit. Even if you live in a larger unit, it is always recommended to paint the entire unit. Painting a room or two is a good idea, but painting every room is even better. It brings life to the entire space, instead of secluding it to only a few smaller areas. This breath of air is best felt throughout the entire space. Also, if you are hiring a professional, its better to have them paint everything while they are set up in your condo unit.
Condos are normally high-rise buildings, with the smaller structures being between 5-10 floors in height. This poses a challenge for any contractor or service person transporting tools to and from the unit. Most, if not all condominiums have service elevators for use upon request. It is a wise decision to have this service elevator booked for the start date of work being done in your condo. If you are painting or fixing your own condo and have your own tools, than paint will be the only commodity required for transport. Since most condos don’t exceed 2200 sq ft, you wont need to make more than a few trips in the elevator.
Price, the deciding factor. Every condo unit has a different layout, and every person a personal preference. Pricing on repainting condos varies. There are many things to be considered which can alter the price. Some of them are:
These are just a few factors that will affect the price of your condo repaint. There are many factors that contribute to the pricing and it is recommended to speak with your painter about any details, concerns or ideas you may have. If you plan on painting your condo on your own, than the decision is up to you. Keep in mind, the more prep work you put in the better the finished product.
Now that you’ve made the decision to repaint your condo, what colours are going to work best and compliment each room? If you don’t have a design background, or don’t have the opportunity to work with an interior designer; your best option is going to a local Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams store and asking for some help. Most of Canadas paint suppliers offer in-store design consultation and help. They will help you choose the right shades and colours to paint your condo. If you have hired a professional paint company, than why not ask them if they offer any advice or consultation on colours and design? It’s another decision you won’t regret. Since most condos are designed to utilize the least amount of space possible, it’s always a good idea to use colours that wont darken or enclose any smaller rooms. Typically most people paint the same colour throughout their entire condo. A little variety is good. Different shades of the same colour can be applied to certain rooms to alter the mood or atmosphere of the space. However, sometimes the simplicity of one bright colour throughout the entire space is enough to bring the condo back to life.
Now that your condo is painted, it’s time to enjoy the space. Its amazing what a new paint job, and some furniture re-arrangement can do to your living space. The look and feel of a new paint job is great, and when done properly is entirely worth the money. Painting in condos is a lot of work but always transforms them into something new.
